It's time again for the exciting Orange County Imaginology STEAM Fair. This annual spring fair is designed for youth of all ages to explore STEAM ideas and show off their creativity in designing fun, interesting, and imaginative projects!
The Imaginology Fair is truly a celebration of the creative work and endeavors of all students; every student's work is on display, all over the fair. Every student takes home ribbons, of all colors, some even take home medals, but the biggest reward is witnessing students of all ages and abilities conclude with confidence and pride that they made that project, and here it is for others to admire!
My own children have enjoyed many years of participating in the Imaginology Fair (back when it was called the Youth Expo) and it is a true pleasure for me to host events for Inspire students at this wonderful, unique event -- no other free fair for children exists like this in Southern California, focused on the magical blend of imagination and education, in a very holistic way. I enjoyed providing STEAM Park Days last year and I have created another series with unique events for our families this year.
We have entered 50 entries for Inspire Students in TK through 12th Grade. Students can choose to build one or more of the 4 possible project entries for the fair.
CARDBOARD ENGINEERING: Get building and dazzle us with some amazing cardboard-ology! Cardboard can be used to make any number of things and it has amazing strength when layered
KINETIC ART is a term that today most often refers to 3-D sculptures and figures such as mobiles that move naturally or are machine operated. The moving parts are generally powered by wind, a motor or the observer. Kinetic art encompasses a wide variety of overlapping techniques and styles. Use any material to make a kinetic hanging mobile.
UPCYCLING: Reuse, reduce and re-create! Upcycling, also known as creative reuse, is the process of converting old or discarded materials into something useful. Sort through your closets, recycling bins, or hit the yard sales and create something beautiful or useful! Did you know? Upcycling is a way of life for people in developing countries. Raw materials are expensive so people use what they have on hand to create what they need.
FARMOLOGY: Farming originated independently in different parts of the world as hunter-gatherer societies transitioned to food production rather than food capture. It may have started about 12,000 years ago with the domestication of livestock. Craft a farm animal or insect using any craft or recycled/re-purposed materials
We will be providing unique and novel project materials at all project build locations, to help students create imaginative projects according to the competition specifications.
Visit the OC Imaginology Competition Guide for more information about project specifications.
