Please be sure to choose which program your children are interested in attending. We must have a minimum of 15 children in each program and a maximum of 30. Parking is free. Animals of the West Grades: K-2nd Grades Your students will meet some of the animals that call the West home. Encounter a Texas Longhorn steer and a bison in our permanent galleries, and learn about the important role animals played in Western cultures. EUREKA! THE CALIFORNIA GOLD RUSH Grades: 3rd-6th Grades In this simulation, students will work in small groups to learn about the experiences and challenges that miners of different backgrounds encountered in their quest to strike it rich during the California gold rush of the late 1840s through the early 1850s. Then it's off to the gold mines, where students have the opportunity to learn how to pan for gold, just like the 49ers! The outdoor portion of this program is weather dependent. After the program we are free to explore the museum on our own. They have an exciting new exhibit called PLAY! Here's what they say about it:

Experience the next level of toys and games at this new exhibition. Through more than 200 historic objects from the Autry’s diverse collections, Play! explores the role of toys and games across cultures and over time. Featuring dolls, board games, video games, outdoor activities, and more, the exhibition looks at the many ways children have played in the American West, the social values toys reveal, and how the West has inspired imagination. Beyond the displays, visitors are invited to get hands-on with games of the past and present—no assembly required. Parking: always free at 4700 Western Heritage Way, directly in front of the Autry. Overflow parking is available across from the Autry in the L.A. Zoo lot. The Autry is located across from the L.A. Zoo at the junction of the I-5 and 134 freeways
