Summertime is just around the corner, which means the public library reading programs along with a few others will be in full swing! Reading incentives can encourage your student to read in a fun and engaging way. If you have tweens or teens in your home be sure to ask your local library about their summer volunteer opportunities. Free Summer Reading Program Barnes and Noble The Barnes & Noble Summer Reading Program is here to help you on your way, encouraging you to read books of your own choosing and earn a FREE book, simply by following these easy steps:
Read any eight books this summer and record them in your Summer Reading Journal.
Tell them which part of the book is your favorite, and why.
Bring your completed journal to a Barnes & Noble store between May 15 and September 3, 2018.
Choose your FREE reading adventure from the book list featured on the back of the journal.
Southern California
Los Angeles County Summer Reading Program Choose your own summer discovery experience! Read books and complete missions to collect prizes at the library. Earn a prize for your first three books or missions completed. Earn additional prizes by continuing to read and complete missions. You can also collect fun digital badges for completing missions, reading lists, and playing games. June 1 - August 11, 2018.
The Read to Ride Program is a special reward program for kids in grades K through 8 who read books over the summer. Kids will receive free carnival ride vouchers good at the 2018 LA County Fair Carnival.
Orange County Summer Reading Program It’s time to rock the library during our annual Summer Reading Program! Attend weekly special events at all library locations featuring live performances, science, animals, arts, and storytelling. Sign-up for technology camps and classes to create video games, mix music, build robots, harness solar power and much more. Grab a Reading & Activity Calendar and cross off each day that you attend a library event/ technology class or read a book. June 2- August 4, 2018.
San Diego County Summer Reading Program
Fasten your seat belts and be sure to put your trays in the upright and locked position because we are ready to take off for this year’s summer reading program, “Reading Takes You Everywhere!” San Diego residents of all ages are encouraged to sign-up for this annual event that is sure to deliver action and adventure through reading. June 1 - August 1, 2018.
Riverside County Summer Reading Program
Our annual Summer Reading Program starts June 1 and runs through July 31, 2018. Everyone is encouraged to sign up. The theme "Reading Takes You Everywhere!" will take us around the world with quite a few exciting activities that celebrate locations and countries.
San Bernardino County Summer Reading Program Join the Galactic Forces, checkout books from the library and read! Log your progress in your reading log and take a trip to the library to pick-up your reward. Don’t forget to visit us weekly to receive your rewards and enjoy our special programs throughout the summer.

San Luis Obispo County Summer Reading Program
Kids and teens can sign-up and read books to earn prizes. By reading for 5 days (20 minutes a day) or reading 5 books you will earn a “Libraries Rock” bag full of goodies. Take the challenge and read 5 more books to earn a free book to keep. June 1- July 28, 2018.
Monterey County Summer Reading Program
This year’s theme, “Reading Takes You Everywhere!” celebrates the journeys we take when we read. Through art, creative play, science, and technology, the Summer Reading Program leads kids to new discoveries and fresh perspectives. Kids earn prizes for time spent reading between June 2 - July 31, 2018. The sooner you sign up, the sooner you can start earning prizes! Open to all ages.
