Filing a Private School Affidavit? Join one of our FREE PSA Filing Sessions on October 1st!

If you're on the fence about filing a PSA, and homeschooling privately, but want more information, we invite you to attend one of our free PSA filing sessions. We'll cover more than just line-by-line instructions. We'll share basic info, FAQs and our personal experiences filing PSAs and homeschooling our own kids.

Filing a Private School Affidavit for the first time can be an exciting experience! It's a great way to truly experience educational choice. The honorable endeavor of homeschooling our own children can also be a deeply personal journey for us as parents, bringing us closer to our children and our family in new ways.

Parents who plan to privately home educate their children are responsible for selecting and providing all curricular, instructional, and enrichment materials. They are fully, and completely in charge of their children's education. There are no rules, no funds, and no oversight from governmental agencies to structure or limit private homeschooling. Families are free to create the homeschooling life they would like for their children and are able to enjoy all the freedoms and joys that go along with that - the sky may not even be the limit.

Do you want to travel to see family in another state, another country, or do you want to travel to see the world with your family? Privately homeschooling really affords you the ability to do this without compromising your schooling obligations, and certainly without compromising your children's education -- in fact, both you and your children will learn more than you possibly imagined. If you're wanting to travel on a budget while balancing work time constraints, connect with some of the Worldschooling social media groups out there to learn how others travel on a budget while homeschooling and working.

Maybe you're concerned about the expenses of privately homeschooling? Contrary to what you may have heard, it isn't expensive to privately homeschool! We've published a list of Free Resources to help direct you toward dozens and dozens of wonderful, quality curriculums, websites, and programs offered for free. We recommend you consider free resources when you're just starting out, to learn and explore what's out there before you purchase a big boxed curriculum set or an expensive online program.

What about socialization? And finding connections? We encourage you to find connections with other homeschoolers, and one great way to start is by joining a few Facebook homeschooling groups that might be meeting up in person. Check out our recent blog resource page on this very topic: Explore Homeschooling Facebook Groups!

Maybe you want to read up on filing a PSA? We recommend you visit the California Homeschool Network's (CHN's) page on Establishing Your Private School. The current PSA link is NOT up and it will not be up until October 1, the start of the filing window for the 2021-2022 school year. Do NOT file before October 1, the filing window is October 1-15 each year, but if you start homeschooling after October 1, then you file at that point, just not before October 1. CHN has lots of great basic info, FAQs, and links to guide you through the outline of the general process of filing a PSA.
