After parking please retain and bring your parking ticket with you for validation. (Parking validation can be done at the picnic area) Do not take the tram to the top. We will be meeting at the unsheltered picnic area available on the lower tram level (T1) at 10:30 am. At this picnic area families can meet, eat, and await our tour guide. Lunches can be stored in insulated coolers located at the picnic area or may be left in cars. Space in the coolers is limited so the museum asks students to pack their lunches in small paper bags. At 11:15, our tour guide will take those who have opted to participate in the guided lesson: A Closer Look. Guided lessons are taught by gallery docents and are available for grades K-12. During a guided lesson students study a limited number of objects in depth rather than tour the entire collection. The museum lessons are highly participatory. Students work in small groups and engage in discussion, writing, role-playing, and, in some cases, art making activities. BECAUSE OF THIS. When you do sign up please indicate if your child/children want to participate in this aspect of our tour and their age so that the museum can make sure they have proper staff on hand. Families do not have to participate in the guided lesson. You can choose to tour the museum on your own. Please note there will be no admittance to the museum including the central garden before 9:30 a.m. Here is a great link for lesson ideas. http://www.getty.edu/education/teachers/trippack/activities.html
