Are you familiar with the Getty’s award-winning photography program, Unshuttered? Unshuttered is a platform and community for teens to share their passion for photography and social justice.
The team behind Getty Unshuttered has partnered with Amplifier.org, the nonprofit design lab best known for the record-breaking 2017 “We The People” public art campaign with Shepard Fairey that works to amplify the voices of grassroots movements. Together they are hosting a national photography open call, open to all students 13-19 year olds. They are asking young people to tell them what they are In Pursuit Of___.
In Pursuit Of ______ is inspired by the phrase “Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness” from the Declaration of Independence, and expands on these fundamental concepts. This prompt is an invitation – to consider, inspire and share. It listens and suggests action. It encourages teens to reflect on their own lives, consider the state of the world, and inspire others through their unique artistic expressions.
The top 10 submissions, as judged by a collective of artists from Amplifier and the J. Paul Getty Museum, will be featured as part of Amplifier’s nationwide projection series and showcased at the Getty Museum in 2021.
This Teen to Teen Teaching Group Session is brought to us by Athan Eklund
Athan is a long time homeschooler from Orange County, California.
He is an award winning photographer who enjoys animation, graphic design, film and television history, and on most nights can be found organizing his friends to play group games and to compete in video game tournaments.
His love for graphic design and animation has led him to create channel art for many of his friend's streaming channels and even a few of our local homeschool parent’s businesses.
He is currently working on his own animated series, and is looking forward to encouraging other teens to flex their creativity.
