Green Gulch Farm Zen Center, also known as Green Dragon Temple (Soryu-ji), is a Buddhist practice center in the Japanese Soto Zen tradition offering training in Zen meditation and ordinary work.

On the first Sunday of the month, they hold a special program for families. This begins at 9:45 am with a quiet song circle outside the zendo. At 10:00 am, we enter the zendo together where the lecturer will address the children. Then f...

Wild About Marine Life

by Steven Joseph Glaze (Inspire Charter School, grade 5)

How did you get interested in marine animals?

My whole life my Mom has been reading me books about sharks and the ocean. We watch movies like Free Willy, Finding Nemo, Finding Dory, Dolphin Tale and Dolphin Tale 2. We always go to the beach when it is warm out. I love to swim in the waves and play in the sand. We also gather shells and find things lik...

I am an unusual homeschooling parent in that I work AND homeschool my children, and on top of that, I am a teacher. I have heard it all and most of the time it comes down to only a couple of things people are perplexed by, 1) why don’t my kids attend a local school/how come we homeschool, and 2) how do we homeschool, because, um, I work! When we first started homeschooling, I made my children sit at the dining room table - o...

At an early age, Shane took to storytelling and reading.  The library has been one of his favorite places to visit ever since he participated in the reading program "Reading to the Dogs" age four at the Temecula Library. He wrote his first short story "Horse Power" inspired by his experience of riding horses at this tender age. Music has also been a big influence in his life from piano and hip hop dance lessons. From these exp...

As a homeschool mom with one middle schooler, and two high schoolers enrolled with Inspire, I have college on my mind.  What college path will my children want to take? Which one is best suited for their pursuits, and their learning styles? Which college path is the most sound financial decision for each of my children, and for my family as a whole?  These questions are prominent, recurring, and not always answerable, as stude...
